My New Toy - Nokia N800

I've increased my nerdability stakes by purchasing the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. It's *not* a phone... it's exactly as it says it is - an Internet Tablet (although if you subscribe to Skype, you can use its phone-like features).

I've only had time to update the operating system to OS 2008 and install some essential programs, and have had it hooked up at home a few times. So far so good. I love it. We don't have WiFi at work (and if we did I'm sure it'd be so secure that only work-approved WiFi connections would be allowed) so I'll be spending my lunch hours wandering the streets of Sydney looking for free WiFi.

Here are some pictures. I didn't go all the way and take un-boxing photos or videos. There are plenty of those in Flickr and YouTube.

oooh aaah ... does it have solitaire?

No solitaire, much to my dismay. I have however found a linux version of Bejeweled so my life is generally complete.

So - what's the verdict. Is it in your "drawer of abyss", or has it become a daily essential, or somewhere in between?

Hmmm ... no way I'm getting that word verification ... let's see what's next.

Being the net addict that I am... I've squeezed every cent out of this baby. I use it a lot at home, where I don't want to drag the notebook around... like while I'm watching TV, laying in bed, etc. I'm getting a lot less sleep these days though.

Woo... my own blog doesn't make me use word verification. Or it's been turned off. Hmm.

Hmmm ... I invested in a PSP-Slim and I don't think I'm gonna like the T9-like input for the browser. And it's only 802.11b. How fast can that Nokia connect? Didja see, someone leaked with Nokia with WiMax?

I did watch Ghost Rider on my PSP while waiting for my connection in the airport. Works well. No squinting. No noticeable frame skipping or audio lag. It also kept the girl occupied with "Loco Roco" while we were waiting at the hospital.

Ok - I typed myself into it. I'll stay pat.

Ooo... T9 makes me laugh, but only when other people use it. I turn predictive text off because I'm unpredictable and it'd waste my time.

I get both 802.11b and 802.11g so the speed's good. Yeah, looks like the WiMAX Edition is out now I think. Gotta be honest, I dunno a whole lot about WiMAX, but once I do, I bet I'll want it!

Haven't tried playing videos on it yet, mainly because I'm too impatient to convert them.
